Scout InsurTech Interview with Aillium
Aillium is building the underwriting intelligence layer for battery assets. Its platform translates battery performance, operating conditions and lifecycle risk into decision-ready signals for insurers and financiers, helping them evaluate and monitor battery-dependent commercial assets across electric heavy-duty fleets, marine and energy storage. Chris Luiz sat down with Founder Aravind Muthiah to learn how Aillium is bridging the gap between battery technology and the insurance and finance markets.

What does your product do?
"Aillium turns battery data into underwriting-ready risk signals. Battery systems generate large volumes of technical and operating data, but that information is usually built for engineers and operators. Insurers and financiers need a different view: how an asset is performing, how that risk is changing over time, whether performance remains within expected and contractual boundaries, and what evidence is available to support an underwriting or financing decision. Aillium sits between the technical data and the commercial decision, translating battery behaviour into a consistent evidence layer that insurers and financiers can understand and act on."
How much capital have you raised?
"We have been revenue-generating and bootstrapped to date, with no outside equity capital raised. We are preparing for our first external round in the final quarter of 2026. The near-term objective is to convert current insurer interest into pilots, deepen the product around real underwriting workflows and build the team around those deployments."
Was the company born from within or outside of the industry?
"Aillium was born at the boundary between the battery industry and insurance. In my previous role at a lithium-ion battery manufacturer, a customer came to us looking for warranty extensions and performance guarantees that we could not provide as the manufacturer. The technical data existed, but there was no independent layer translating that information into a risk position an insurer or financier could use. That gap became the starting point for Aillium."
What growth metrics have you accomplished over the last 12 months?
"Over the last 12 months, we have secured four letters of intent from insurance partners around assurance for the electric bus sector, and we have reached the expression-of-interest stage for electric marine vessels in Singapore. Those engagements give us a practical path to test the same underlying proposition across different battery-dependent assets: converting technical performance evidence into information that can support insurance and financing decisions."
Within your domain, what is the current challenge that the industry is facing?
"The central challenge is a mismatch in time horizons. Insurers and financiers make multi-year decisions, while battery technologies, software, operating environments and duty cycles can evolve much faster than traditional claims histories accumulate. In commercial fleets, marine vessels and energy storage, battery performance can directly affect uptime, warranty exposure, asset economics and residual value. The market therefore needs a credible way to assess emerging battery risk from current operating evidence rather than waiting years for mature loss data to appear."
How does Aillium take a unique approach to providing value?
"Aillium starts with the underwriting or financing decision and works backward to the technical evidence required to support it. We translate battery performance, operating context and contractual boundaries into an auditable risk layer that can sit between asset owners, insurers and financiers. The objective is to make battery risk legible enough for capital providers to structure, price, monitor and validate risk with greater confidence as the asset operates."
What inspired the team to start the company?
"The company came from a customer problem I saw firsthand. A battery owner needed protection beyond what the manufacturer could offer, and the existing market did not have a clear way to convert battery performance evidence into a form that insurance or finance could use. That exposed a broader structural problem: battery technologies and deployment models can change faster than the historical datasets traditional financial products normally rely on. I started Aillium to build a way of assessing that risk while the operating history is still being created."
Can you share any goals for the next 12 months?
"We have three immediate commercial goals. First, convert our current insurer LOIs into pilots with at least one carrier. Second, establish our first commercial entry into electric marine vessels. Third, raise our first external round and build the team required to support those deployments. The broader objective is to prove that Aillium’s underwriting intelligence can become a repeatable infrastructure layer across battery-dependent commercial assets, beginning with the markets where performance risk has the greatest economic consequence."
